With Lumberg Automation splitters, signals can be merged or distributed. They are  therefore often used with passive and  active distribution modules.

T-splitter for Doubling of Port

Connecting a T-splitter to an I/O port the number of inputs or output signals are  doubled. Using a distribution module with 2 signals per port it is possible for two  sensors or actuators to be connected via  one I/O port.

With maximum utilisation (each port in a module has a splitter), a complete module  is ultimately saved from use. A distribution module with 2 channels per port with 8  ports can control up to 16 signals.
